Friendly Center & The Shops at Friendly

Recommended Posts

YES! I was in Charlotte over the holiday and went to the Apple store at South Park. I was talking about how Greensboro needed an Apple store and how the new section of Friendly would be perfect for an Apple store. Yay!

Its kinds neat how they dont have traditional check out counters. They take portable scanners with them to check you out.

Yeah, those wireless card readers are really cool. Especially considering how crazy it gets in Apple stores. It's cool to be able to flag down someone and check out right there rather than checking out at the register.

Ironically Friendly Center is one of Greensboro oldest shopping centers yet today it seems to be the THE shopping destination of Greensboro.

It's in a good location, and the mall is expanding. I'm glad to see it grow, though it's only a portion of what's going on in Greensboro retail.

From the CBL article...

"The centers benefit from strong and growing demographics including more than 485,000 residents within a 15-mile radius and average household incomes within a one-mile radius of over $95,000."

Those demographics are very impressive. I guess I didn't realize how affluent that area was.

Its pretty affluent. So affluent that there are two Wachovia branches next to each other.

Some banks have multiple buildings next together because one might deal with personal bank accounts while the other one will deal with investment and business banking. There are some good examples of this in Winston (i.e. Five Points area).

Williams-Sonoma is opening a new store in Shops at Friendly Center next to the new Apple store by the end of the year. I have a feeling they will be leaving Four Seasons at the same time, but I have no confirmation of this.

Sounds like a natural progression for Williams-Sonoma. Plus they seem to like to locate in shopping centers that have Talbots too lol
Isn't THREE specialty kitchen retailers in one mall a little excessive though?

Yea. Shops at Friendly already has Sur La Table which is another upscale kitchen retailer..but then again we are talking about the same shopping center that had two Wachovia bank branches right next to each other.

I think i'm breaking this news here, so pardon me if it's already been mentioned, but URBAN OUTFITTERS will be coming to Greensboro, Fall/Winter 2009... And I would think it would be at Friendly Center.

I haven't heard about this other than here, but it's a great coup for Greensboro.
