Anyone know of they're planning on saving any of the facade? It would be great if they could and use it as a design element somewhere on whatever project ends up here.

I know they want to find some way to incorporate some sort of element of the building. At least thats what I was told a year or so ago.

15 floor apartment building :-(

I wish they could pay homage to the fact a historical brick building was here. Graham condos (although not the best looking) or something like SouthEnd station or whatever the twin tower SouthEnd office tower is called would’ve been a nice nod.  I know it won’t based on latest renderings but.

I would love to recaim some of the wood from the interior. I believe I read here on UP that it was originally a car showroom and so the floors were built extra stout.

In another Observer article, Northwood Ravin gives a somewhat unsatisfying answer to my question:

Northwood Ravin won’t be preserving the Polk Building as part of the new development. Ravin said the building is in bad shape, with the facade crumbling away and major interior damage. Preserving and reusing it would be too costly to justify, Ravin said.

“It’s not something I take lightly,” Ravin said of saving the Polk Building, “But it’s easier to say, harder to do.”

Newest addition to the Charlotte skyline is coming soon in uptown
