Seems like the crowd is pretty upbeat on most projects. This particular one has been disappointing to most here because of the loss of the historical building, and not trying to repurpose it. I really enjoy hearing these folks' opinions and critiques. Not sure what the difference is.

Exactly. If you tear down one of the most historical high-rises in the state, you better bring something that can stand up to the scrutiny. This exact building could still have gotten built if the footprint of the development were aligned differently on the lot. In this iteration it was destroyed bc Northwood Ravin was too cheap and lazy to renovate that building. Its truly a shame. There are so many other surface lots this forgettable developments could have taken instead of the Polk Building.

The density for this site could have been better with it situated besides the future Gateway Station and with front door StreetCar service.  Seems like northwood ravin played this site ‘safely’ instead of visionary.   Their choice though...

Anyway - I’ll be surprised if Northwood does anymore Uptown Residential in the next 5 years since they’re now heavily focused on developing more Office, Residential, Retail and Hospitality in Ballantyne as well as working with CATS on future LightRail Station/Park n Ride locations throughout the Corporate Park.

I’ve met a lot of the people on this forum, and can confirm quite a few are architects, engineers, civil engineers, construction people, professors of architecture and commercial real estate professionals.

I don’t hate the design for the apartment building, I just don’t like the use of that lot. If major density was going to push west along trade, we really needed a legacy union sized building on that site. Which would have really helped the whole gateway station project too. Just my opinion.

BoA is probably leasing that much in the Gateway buildings so I don’t see a problem with the location.

It is going quickly. They are working weekends and there are a ton of people onsite every day. This project, Honeywell and FNB seem to be the fastest development projects in uptown.

Yes, and it’s not the biggest or most complex project so I’m sure that helps.

I think that’s a great idea. When you have as many projects as Charlotte does, sometimes it’s nice to have a rendering reference the project, page 1, without going through page after page to get the goodies.

I co-sign this!! Often times I have to navigate multiple pages in a thread to find the renderings, as I may forget what something is supposed to look like. Tons of projects going on would just make it easier.
