i've never been to a harrah's place, but i have been to the 2 in CT (which i don't think have any affiliation with vegas).

if a casino were to be located in providence, it would have to be like i said... located on allens ave with gaming, a couple bars for the gamblers, a small food court so they can eat, and a small hotel (because i don't think there's any hotels down there). i'm not sure if it'd be approved by the residents, but i think there's already a building zoned for a casino. to enjoy nightlife, entertainment, and restaurants, casino patrons would have to partronize the places already in the city. this could spur growth in that part of the city, enhance the red light district, have a brothel, and be open 24 hours. it just couldn't be zoned or licensed for anything that would really compete with what's already available in providence (shows, live music, clubs, restaurants, sporting events, conventions, etc).

That is why I asked, I have no interest in building Lincoln Park or Newport Jai Lai in Providence. No one with money to spend is going to by pass Foxwoods for a Providence version of something like that. But maybe some place has managed to build a full casino without the other amenities.

RI is supposed to be Harras ticket into the Northeast.... does that mean that they will look for a location in Mass after the RI casino is operating to expand? or if we reject it, will they go straight to mass?

because either of those options sound bad for Newport Grand, Lincoln and Providence

I was just thinking yesterday how nice it has been not to hear about the casino lately and also, as nice as I'm sure Matthew Thomas is, not to have to see his smug face everytime I turn on the telly anymore.

Seminoles will purchase Hard Rock Cafe business. Fla. tribe's $965m buy includes casinos, eateries, and hotels. [The Boston Globe]

I bet someone's jealous. :whistling:

i saw that yesterday... i wonder why the native americans always complain about how impoverished their people are. that's a TON of money. i would think that rather than spend it on buying a restaurant chain, they'd donate it to their fellow native americans.
