smart growth in empire

Recommended Posts

I know this is slightly away from our area of concern, but northwest michigan has a lot of cool stuff going on. I recently found this plan for a new urbanist expansion of the village of empire. it's underway, as link number 2 will show. look how affordable it is to get a lot near the lake when the lot sizes and land prices aren't artifically inflated by poor planning.

if the second link doesn't let you click around on your own, you can get to the site through the frames on the stapleton residential listings and then it will work. but you have to dig a little.

That is great to see. Bungalow/craftsmen style homes are my favorite. Some of the far northern cities like Traverse, Petosky and Charlevoix are wonderful communities. It is good to see Empire is going to be revitalized.

Empire is a cool little town, nothing to do there, but it exudes small Northern town feel. I camp up around there a few times every year. If I recall there is a really damn good ice cream shop in Empire.
