Orlando Attractions Area News & Developments

The Skyplex folks acquired another 1.5 acre parcel contiguous with their land directly north on Canada Ave, giving them 10% more space. This also gives them the land directly across from their proposed employee parking area that was previously seperated, so they won't have to walk past other people's property to get there. Unfortunately no new updates on actually starting the project, which was now split into multiple phases... phase 1 will be the tower only on existing empty land.

does the Skyplex have legs?  Money?  Have they leased the Hollywood Garage yet?

Well, the Mangos business is very profitable from my understanding. The Hollywood Garage as far as I know has had nothing leased as of yet that hasn't fallen through. He's had a few deals that fell apart. I think the road construction right there is gonna make it tough until thats wrapped up. My best guess is they'll build the tower to open around the time Universal's Epic Universe is about ready to open. I think there is demand for the project, and he will be able to get it done, just super late and delayed.

As a tourist wanted to ride that big wheel at Icon Park and because of the price it was better to do a combo so I went to Madame Tussauds too.  It was great and fun great employees there.   Some of the wax figures are of course are more lifelike than others and some are I felt like talking to LOL.  Your Orlando tourist for the next 2 days!

Is Hogan's still planning on moving as soon as work begins?

No, Hogan's is outside of phase 1 now with the new split, its unlikely there is any need for him to move within the next couple years. Phase 1 should not require any existing businesses to close or relocate at this point.

Edit: Hollywood Plaza does appear to have Mooyah's Burgers scheduled to open in March on the ground floor. I haven't been close enough to notice anything but the permits seem to be consistent with a March opening as announced.

From Theme Park Insider

that's really cool.  glad to see SW plugging away.  this will be their 4th coaster.  that's really good for Orlando tourism.

that's good.  it will get foot traffic into the facility which may help land another tenant.

I've been to a few of these around the world and agree with him that it is going to be a tough sell.  It was hard keeping people in there for more than 1 drink or 2 at most, at the ones I went to.  I've never been to the one here in town.

Marriott Vacations Worldwide is moving to O-town West. The timeshare company will be getting a 9-story building with 300K sf.

It replaces their Westwood building and the facility of a company purchased by MVW in 2018.

that's big.  That 9 story office structure will look pretty tall from I-4.

A wing coaster next for Sea World after Ice Breaker?

Our very own Ken Storey writes in Orlando Weekly that it could happen:

https://www.orlandoweekly.com/Blogs/archives/2020/01/27/new-documents-out-of-seaworld-orlando-hint-at-possibility-of-one-of-the-rarest-rollercoasters-in-the-nation

So many points to touch on here.

First, when you and the article stated "a wing" my mind went to SW ROTJ and the Rebel A-Wing.

Secondly, when the article name drops Lance Hart of Screamscapes, my mind went to Lance Hart, a porn actor, who likes to get kicked in his cohones.

In summary, this is awesome for Sea World,.  They already have the high dollar Discovery Cove, but to keep updating the park in this manner is fantastic.  It just adds to the tourism palate in Orlando.

Maybe SW can do what Uni is doing ala marketing their offerings to the CVB as a viable entertainment option for conventioneers.  I know Renaissance is or did expand already, might have added a new ballroom last year (Bon?).

Surprisingly, the area around SW along CFLA Pkwy and I-Drive is perhaps the best looking real estate not on park property surrounding any park in Orlando.  It beats the Kirkman corridor and the SR 535 and US 192 corridors that border

Is Downtown Orange County finally gonna be a thing? Ken Storey suggests the idea is moving from the fevered dream of an aughts-decade politician to something approaching reality thanks to developers:

A look at Iron Gwazi under construction at BGT. It will be 206’ tall, decline at a 91 degree angle and go up to 76mph:

It would probably be best to ride before lunch.
