All Universal construction projects have been delayed a year. This includes new Epic Worlds construction and the associated hotels for it. The roadwork is still going to happen for the  Kirkman Road extension.

Do we have a link? Need to pass it on to someone who predicted USF was full steam ahead.

I don't have a link or news release. The information was told to us by our Regional Manager on a conference call this morning for our preconstruction and business development updates. Our area manager said that Universal's construction operations team notified that they are delaying a specific back of house project that was supposed to have a proposal in May delayed a year. (Not sure if that means full year or  as in next year, January 2021). This project was critical to construction of Epic Universe because the BOH has to be done before they build the attractions/front of house projects.  Our area manager specifically stated that all Universal projects were "delayed a year"  when discussing this specific proposal as well as other opportunities we have been tracking.

I am sure Disney is similar, however, Disney had not formally notified contractors of scheduling plans yet. They just said for now that projects are being placed on hold and they will re-evaluate as the process unfolds.

I also want to clarify that this was  referring to "new" projects. What they are currently building or have already started are  still going to complete. They are just delaying potential upcoming new projects (ones that our company and business development team   were specifically tracking and pursuing for RFP process).

As I noted previously:

Universal Orlando’s new Epic Universe theme park will be delayed because of coronavirus pandemic

https://www.orlandosentinel.com/coronavirus/jobs-economy/os-bz-universal-coronavirus-earnings-20200430-wrnz6ysqdrhsrbnx7ccehbpmxm-story.html

Universal is delaying construction of its Epic Universe theme park in Orlando as the company navigates the coronavirus pandemic crisis, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said Thursday.

The new park was set to open in 2023, the company disclosed in October. Roberts did not immediately say what the construction delay would mean to the project’s timeline.

Six Flags today announced that, whenever its parks reopen, advance reservations will be required to enter the park for visitors and pass holders.

This is to facilitate social distancing in the post-lockdown era.

While Six Flags has no Orlando-area parks, look for similar schemes to be announced for our local attractions. Imagine: make a date with a gator at Gatorland!

Word on the street is that Universal is planning on opening a a couple restaurants, and couple fast casual, and a Starbucks starting the 11th at extreme limited capacity to Include gift shop only and patio only and a couple select small sections of the restaurants.

honestly not sure how to feel about this or if it make sense.  Who wants to go to city walk out of their way, through parking and strict health and security checks for incredibly limited options.

They have done very well by their employees so far through this whole ordeal but I’m questioning this move for many reasons.

Don't really know where to put this, but MLS is looking at using Orlando and Disney WWOS/Hotels to host a season in which the teams play on closed fields :

MLS weighing several options for returning to competition, including all teams in Orlando or splitting between two cities, multiple people tell me. Timetable ~ June/July, with everyone tested and quarantined. At some point, teams would return to home markets for matches.

MLS proposing all 26 teams come to Orlando to resume season this summer

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2020/05/11/mls-proposing-all-26-teams-come-orlando-resume-season-this-summer/

MLS has proposed placing all 26 teams in the Orlando area this summer and playing competitive matches without spectators at the Disney sports complex and possibly other locations, multiple people familiar with the plan said.

The players, coaches and support staff, numbering more than 1,000, would live under quarantine at one of the large resorts near Disney World for an undetermined length of time.   Teams would practice and play primarily at ESPN Wide World of Sports, which sits on 220 acres as part of Disney’s massive footprint in central Florida. Disney-owned ESPN is one of MLS’s broadcast partners.
