Rosen is planning on renovating the Rosen Plaza and Rosen Centre while building a new hotel in between the two to connnect them and making it one huge hotel. The front facing I-Drive will have what they are calling a Mini Millenia Mall and the whole thing will have a connection to the Convention Center...

Where did this come from? Each property borders the Orange County Convention Centers, West Building, (Phases 1-4). All three string properties string along I-Drive with OCCC in the midde. Phases 1&2 of OCCC West Bldg sit directly across I-Drive from the Peabody. There is not way to connect the two properties without removing OCCC West building.

Are you sure you aren't talking about two other Tamar properties? Maybe the Plaza (Old Clarion) and the Quality Inn behind Ming Court? That rework has been considered for some time now but I haven't heard anything about it lately.

Of note, if the casinos ever get a yes vote, the Rosen has proposed one for Orange County on the Quality Inn site. But that getting passed is quite a gamble in itself.

I am a huge theme park fan so will be covering all of the usual suspects but the last couple of times I have visited I have been venturing further afield and looking at the kinds of homes which are selling.....any prime real estate areas that I should look into? I will be considering a move over to Orlando within the next 5 years (life planning is so passe!)

This time I am bringing along a friend with her 7yo son - they are Orlando/US vigins so it should be entertaining for them.

I hope you have a good time, I'd rather be in Scotland during the summer, but spring here is nice. At least it's cheap for you once you get here.

Check out the 'favourite neighbourhood' ( ) thread for ideas on particular areas....give it a few months, you might be able to get a great deal, depending on what the RE market does.

The Real Estate market seems pretty bouyant over there but the exchange rate makes it more appealing...............and also make the trip a lot cheaper.........will check out the neighbourhood thread, thanks for the tip

I know it sounds crazy but it's in this weeks OBJ. 800 more hotel rooms and 200,000 sq ft more meeting space...The total property would have over 3,000 rooms and 500,000 sq ft meeting space while connected to the convention center...It also says the adjacent Quality Inn would be downsized to provide more room...The OBJ also asked th Peabody Manager about his expansion and he was non committal...

he's probably building a tower on the west face of the N/S/ building, along that cut-through road between Universal and I-Drive, behind Peabody. From there, he can connect to Rosen Centre--- but would have to go past Pointe Orlando to get to the Rosen Plaza. I'm confused.

(Fox35 website "Orlando Condo Projects on Hold A sluggish market is putting the brakes on a lot of downtown high rise projects"

If you have not been down by SeaWorld recently, the structures for the new slides at the waterpark are starting to go vertical.

any update on when Aquatica will be complete?

Also I heard something about the lease for Wet and Wild being up at the end of this year...is that true and is ther any word on what will be happening on the site?

2008 is the date for the SW project......it is coming along well....SW is really trying, between the 3 parks, to become its own destination.....

W&W is owned by Universal, although the land is leased....it always made sense (to me) to move the park to on-property land and stop paying for the current land.....

they could not get financed....

not surprising....their management is very amateur....

wow. so much for that. they also couldn't get financed back when 9/11 happened. man, and they've got reservations --originally set for 2008 then pushed to 2009, for convention delegates. I wonder what CVB will do to re-book those rooms elsewhere. hopefully the Hilton will come online and provide needed room relief. Westin should be open by 2008, but that's just a few hundred rooms.

It will be interesting to see what direction the CVB takes with the new leadership.....it could only get better.

I have been part of the Hospitality Industry in Orlando for the past 17 years and in my opinion, The CVB and Bill have done an awesome job at putting Orlando on the map for big dog citywides. Just my opinion........

I'm sure things will get ratcheted up a couple notches with the PAC as well as some other projects. Plus I wouldn't call Disney amatuer by any stretch.

it seems that way, doesn't it.

I will say this, amid the BS from Peabody not getting their act together, and the big ordeal back in '98 between World Expo Osceola and Orange County, we do have this going for us:

1. WDW marketing machine & their incredible mass transit network

2. Universal marketing machine

3. Busch marketing machine (not as big, though)

4. OCCC Phase V

5. The advent of new luxury accomodations

6. OIA's committment to excellence

7. I-Drive renovations and new developments

8. CVB

I almost forgot, the lack of cooperation to get mass transit to tie our tourist areas together-- within reason.
