Orlando Attractions Area News & Developments

Good news.. I can't believe the Peabody expansion is finally underway.

ditto.

how cool will that be. Peabody's footprint will literally hug I-Drive from where it's at now to the skybridge, then around the other side of it along the border street to the N/S Bldg. for a few hundred feet, then back towards the new tower ever so close to where I-Drive intersects with the now Pointe Drive or whatever (where Universal used to terminate). What density it will provide to the area.

^How does this building interact w/ the street? Is it pedestrian friendly?

there's the low rise convention and lobby structure that comes close to I-Drive to the west, and it straddles the access road to the north; not sure where the lobby is though. I was hoping it would have ped entrances along I-drive, but I'm not sure...

^^

it's taken from the access road fronting the west face of the N/S Bldg., to the north of the skybridge.

^^

15th largest non-casino hotel... that's at 1,500 or so rooms too... So I'm sure Marriott World Center at 2,000 rooms and over 350K sq. ft. of expo space has to be in the Top 10 or Top 5...

Pretty shrewd of these guys to butt their convention space right next to the pedestrian bridge connecting the West and North OCCC buildings. Be King of the breakouts and catering for expo heavy shows. That's where the real money lies, not to mention room occupancy.

its interesting. the footprint for Peabody will be massive now; it will be awesome; and the presence it will have will be incredible to what it has now. I just hop they figure out a way to connect Pointe Orlando to it or to the north of it ala a skywalk or improve ped path.

you know, if Rosen gets crackin on the Rosen Plaza expansion (which I believe phase I is underway), then Pointe Orlando's placement will be so perfect that it will attract other retailers to open up shop there and perhaps new development to the north of the complex.

^skywalks take away from street level retail and activity. Improve the streetwall between Peabody and Pointe Orlando and that is all the connection you need.

true. I think the folly has been the old Universal Blvd/I-Drive intersection-- the spure behind Pointe Orlando, has no sidewalk on the Peabody side. That should change when they improve that tract once construction is complete; I noticed many tourists walking on the dirt and grass along the fence trying to get to the Peabody before-- very dangerous.

An update on SeaWorld's Manta. Apparently the track work has been completed.

great shot.

was just thinking... maybe The Great Wheel Co. should do a combo project with Sea World since they'll already be next door, and make the Great Wheel an attraction at Sea World... it would really boost SW's clout...

But realistically, the Great Wheel should have been part of a pavillion at EPCOT from the getgo. Except, from that height, you would be able to see all the back of house and industrial portions of EPCOT and it would probably ruin the experience...

Peobody is now going vertical.

three distinct zones: the tower, the garage, and the convention area. that's going to make for a rather large footprint once its complete. It will be in league with the likes of Shingle Creek, Grande Lakes, Waldorf (once open), the Hilton OCCC (once open), Gaylord Palms, Marriott World Ctr., and Dolphin/Swan. Might as well throw in Rosen Centre since it has like 1,200+ rooms and has around 100k ft sq of meeting space as well. And when Rosen Plaza expands, it will rank up there as well.
