Barber Park expansion coming:

https://newsroom.ocfl.net/2019/02/barker-park-to-expand-with-new-multi-purpose-fields-and-splash-pad/

From Orange County

Significantly, it’s a collaboration between OC and Orlando. Since we once again have a truce between the Brick Bunker and The Dome, is it time to revisit consolidation?

Two new high schools will open in southwest OC in 2021. That will bring the number of public high schools in the county to 22 (in 1976, when West Orange opened, there were only about10).

Its funny to think that if I were to graduate in 2022, I wouldn't be zoned for Dr. Phillips High like I was when I graduated in 2002.  Wait that was 20 years ago!?!?!!?  That would mean someone graduating from this school wouldn't have even been alive when I graduated.  Damn you space time continuum!

I went to Evans when it had one of the best high school English departments in the state... not to mention the #1 basketball team (Chocolate Thundah! - Darryl Dawkins). Things have definitely changed.

It turns out the Parliament House is part of “The West Colonial Opportunity Zone” (as thousands of lads who have played balcony bingo over the years could attest, but I digress).

Anyway, it’s interesting to ponder what could, umm, pop up in the area. Ideas?

The ‘50’s seem to be alive and well. If you still have your bomb shelter under your backyard, now you can use it to hide from COVID-19 instead of nuclear fallout!

The Beeman family (of chewing gum fame) was once quite prominent in the Orlando area. Among their holdings was the San Juan Hotel (whose infamous demise was noted on another thread recently - a pic of it in its heyday is in the article) and a ginger ale plant in Seminole County made from one of the many springs that gave Altamonte its name:

Transformation of former 128-acre Rosemont golf course  announced:

Wow...another golf course bites the dust. I didn't know this course was closed. I was reminiscing the other day about all the golf courses that I have played that were no longer around....and the list was longer than I'd thought it would be. It is kinda sad. Oh well...as long as there is space to be outside and bike/walking paths and some green areas/parks....I guess it could be worse. RIP Rosemont...glad I got to play you once. Cheers.
