Per GS, "an AREA15 attraction could be coming to Orlando" ...(whatever that means).

"often described as “futuristic” or “immersive,” and offers live events, art installations and a 6,500-square-foot food hall by chef and restaurateur Todd English. Features include a Meow Wolf art exhibit, a 23-foot Japanese maple tree inside and a canopy of 5,000 LED lights."

Between I4, Daryl Carter and Lake the land would have over 300k ftsq retail entitlements and may include work force housing. FWIW,, "Installments at AREA15′s Las Vegas location include Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart, Lost Spirits Distillery, Dueling Axes, Emporium Bar and Arcade, Wink World, The Beast Food Hall by Todd English, Rocket Fizz candy shop and Intel Innovation Hub".... again, I don't know what any of that is, but I gather the tourists would be wowed.

I am guessing this is a new hotel and we had a precast concrete 13 story building built in Charlotte but it is still fairly rare for high rises.  But it quicker to build and they snap it together. From I-4  Hotel?

New Marriott Vacations HQ but a hotel will also be included in it. City Center at O-Town West. A new Zen Hotel and some outparcels also included on that site.

Did anyone report on this project near Sanctum Cafe on E. Colonial & Fern Creek & Altaloma?   It's pretty big...5 stories...

A few have mentioned it in the Mills/50 thread and @orlandocity87 and @smonteserin have pictures and updates.

this is in direct vicinity of the Amazon warehouse in Deltona.

Can you somehow move this post into the "Extended" developments thread?  Because this is Volusia County news, and good news at that!  thx!

Unfortunately I can not move the post without deleting all together.  Maybe the moderator @Spartancan do so.

Winter Garden may pause new permits for alcohol sales in future downtown restaurants

Would be awesome if downtown Orlando do the same...

@sunshine, it’s great to have you posting again!

Winter Garden is always adjusting and working to do whatever will make Plant St. one of the go-to destinations in the region. It’s a good way to stop and make sure every now and then you’re headed in the right direction.

WG is also not shy about discussing what needs aren’t being met downtown, and then figuring out the best way to make them happen. They’re also not shy at working with developers to see that anything new coming online fits the vision.

We saw all of that come into play with the new hotel and, just wow. It’s a perfect addition.

That’s something we could use more of in downtown Orlando but the administration is cowed by the developers and bar owners.

They have probably seen what has transpired in Sanford. It really is a duel edged sword- you are not going to attract people/ money without bars. Too many bars or the wrong type and you end up dissuading other people from coming to the area.

The infamous former Sheraton Catalina/Ramada hotel at I-4 and JYP is going to become an “adults only” resort.

Of course, that pretty much sums up the goings on there for years, but now it will be official:

A 120-unit affordable housing complex for seniors has opened in the former Rose’s/Luria’s shopping center on Silver Star Rd just west of Hardee’s* and Pine Hills Rd.:

https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/orange-county/os-ne-hawthorne-park-grand-opening-20220622-hqtynre35nabji5fscvxvhuwne-story.html

*Back in its Burger Chef days (Incrediburgible!) it was known as “Haberkamp’s Labor Camp” for the franchise owners by Evans students, which included the Haberkamp’s twin sons.

That shopping center had to have been one of the most oddly placed facilities ever built - it sat so far back off the road, it was easy to forget it was there.

Developer unveils 1st phase of $1 billion RoseArts district in Orlando
https://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/real-estate/os-bz-rosearts-project-orlando-20220627-ru2mjxqxrrgkxdrgsjk2iqc4tm-story.html

From The Sentinel

“Six months after Orlando’s City Council approved the rezoning and master plan for the $1 billion RoseArts District, Miami-based Westside Capital Group is moving the project forward by submitting more detailed development plans for the first phase, according to a report in GrowthSpotter. Plans call for four mixed-use apartment buildings with a total of nearly 1,600 dwelling units and up to 150,000 square feet of retail space.”

For the paywall folks, where is the RoseArts District?

Rosemont - just north of 441 and Lee Rd in Beautiful Downtown Lockhart

Rosemont is a PUD from the ‘70’s that began going downhill almost from its inception. It’s the local poster child for building too many oversized apartment complexes in one area. Developers love that but it’s pretty much a disaster for everyone else.

We really need to densify Orlando. Faster than the current pace or we will never get out go the mess we are in.

Okahumpka looks to restore a historic Rosenwald school for use as a community center:

From The Leesburg Daily Commercial

The Rosenwald schools were a partnership between Booker T. Washington and then Sears president Julius Rosenwald to provide educational facilities to Black kids in the Jim Crow South. There were many of them across Florida but most are now gone.
