Norfolk Cruise Terminal

I'll say this much...should Norfolk go with the Cordish project, it would give folks something else to do when they step off the cruise, although shops would be far more appropriate.

Although, if I'm the city, I'm also offering NET shuttles to MacArthur on a regular basis, assuming that service even exists anymore.

Bad news for Norfolk:

So now no Carnival cruises for Norfolk. Norfolk needs a long-term contract from a cruise line or they need to think of doing something else with this building. Maybe they can transform it into a convention center.

That building has never lived up to its potential. I say turn it into a casino.

OK, I know that I'm an optimist, but I dont see a problem with the cruise center.

So it cost $37.4M to build, has had $8.5M in direct revenue and $49M in indirect revenue, and is still going to be utilized as a stopover destination by ships. Also at some point, a ship could be homeported back to Norfolk.

I do think that some consessions should be made for some river cruises and bay cruises. There is a market for those smaller cruise companies!

Carnival is set to return with departures from Norfolk next year on the Triumph. Let's hope this will be a more permanent decision than last time they came back. Norfolk should try to also lure another cruise line to depart from the Half Moon IMO, I'm in no way saying give up on Carnival but I think we should try to get a second.

I forget where we were talking about it but ...

It is confirmed that both Carnival ships will in fact be sailing out of Norfolk in 2020. Making the total trips at least 7 times between the 2 ships, including the two weeklong trips to Cuba.

The city must exploit anything and everything they can to lure these types of revenue generators. Add additional flights into ORF for the cruise passengers coming to town. We don't need every company relocating DT to be a F500...we just need businesses, period. More Americans work for small businesses than large ones by a long shot.

Wow 25 ships from NCL, next year could be a game changer indeed for cruises in Norfolk!

All the more reason for the city to move on the next era for MacArthur. We’re gonna see a lot of tourists coming through downtown in the next few years.
