These excite me. I'm gonna do a little more digging for info on some of these, it appears I don't have that last one (E Main/22nd St 160 units) on the development map.

This also exlcudes the Spy Rock project in front of UMFS at Broad and Hamilton, the redevelopment of the old Inland Games and Fisheries property just west on Broad, and another project near Scott’s Addition that hasn’t been announced yet. Others in the works as well in Shockoe Bottom that aren’t listed above.

These are pretty exciting times.  These projects lately are really changing the feel of Richmond. .   You can really start to feel the presence of all the new residents.

I used to think Richmond's golden age was in the past. Richmond has never been a better place to live than it is today and the future is looking very good!

Richmond didn’t welcome them and their casino, so now they are looking to build in Norfolk.  Richmond always finds a way to shoot itself in the foot. This would have been great for attracting large acts, shows, and tourists to the area...but no...Richmond wants none of that.  Just dumb.

Altria Theater (3,500 seats) and Carpenter Center (1,800 seats) are comparable to the MGM Casino at National Harbor (3,000 seats) size. Unsure what events you’re talking about that Richmond would be  missing out on from a Casino if it’s going to have a similar event space.

How did richmond not welcome them? I can’t read the article.

Another article I just read said that they have not eliminated talks with other localities including Richmond, but that Norfolk discussions were the most advanced. Honestly, waterfront casino in Norfolk seems like it would make a lot of sense.

Not exactly sure but it’s inferred from this article:

I certainly hope the Richmond area is still in the running, but I doubt it based on what I just read.

I don't mean to pick, but it's  conjecture. What if after studying the various sites around the state they simply believe this to be the best site? What if there was not a suitable 20 acre waterfront site in Richmond?  What if they wanted substantial public funds but the City of Richmond has a lot on its plate with the Coliseum redevelopment and Diamond redevelopment? We just don't know yet.

Can’t blame the Paumunkey tribe for this location. Directly next to a future higher speed rail station and a light rail station as well as being a waterfront property and close proximity to a highway interchange. RVA doesn’t have a site that can give them that so it makes 100% sense why they would choose this location. Plus, I’d take the new arena development and the diamond project over this casino any day.

Are ships also bringing in tourists in this area as well?

They do but the Amtrak station is probably the biggest selling point. The DC route is quite busy and I can easily see this becoming a day trip destination for those in the DC area looking to both go to the beach and gamble. The casino is not definite, and you don't just buy that much land without a backup plan for how you're going to use it if plan A falls through. This is a good site for a large mixed use development.

This is not an either or scenario (either the casino or the arena project)...Richmond could have had both. I just see this as an opportunity missed for Richmond. I think the opposition from the New Kent residents sent them to Norfolk where they were better received. The Norfolk location might be a good location, but it looks like they considered New Kent first.  Congrats to Norfolk.

...and what if Richmond doesn’t build the new arena project either....

I’m sorry, but I take issue with your comment. Richmond area’s stupidity? This is baseless and uncalled for.

Coupe, you’ve known me for years...that comment was not like me.  My apologies folks.  I’m not without mistakes and yesterday, my emotions got the better part of me.  Please forgive me.  We’re in this together and we all want the best to happen to Richmond, I just got a little frustrated when it didn’t.  I will do better.

Theres something better in Richmond’s future instead of this project.  This is a great time to be alive - to witness Richmond’s economic revival!
