Does not shock me one bit who opposed it. Scary part is gray is running for mayor. It is very scary to think someone like her who opposes anything and everything could actually be mayor of Richmond. She will drive everything and everyone out for good.

"Representatives from the Fan District Association and other civic organizations in Gray’s district, which borders the property at West Broad and Lombardy streets, asked the council to delay a decision or oppose the project outright.

They said the building would be a de facto dormitory for college students, bring more traffic to the area and exacerbate difficulties current residents have finding parking. They pointed to fewer on-site parking spots than apartments in the plans. Some said they believed the project had not been properly vetted, a concern Gray echoed."

Most of these people have private off-alley parking spaces.  Boo-hoo.  They are welcome to move to the suburbs and give me their home.

How do you know that?

I agree with Icetera.  Boo-hoo.
The  area has sufficient infrastructure to support many more people.  The retail spaces along Broad and Grace need many, many, many more residents to be successful.   The areas surrounding this project already have restricted parking.  These tenants couldn’t park in the Fan even if they wanted to (well they could conceivably park there in the evening, but parking is ample in the Fan too).

Demolishing the 4 fairly new existing town-homes seems odd to me but I like there work based on the units in Rocketts Landing.

^^^^ I always wondered why those newish townhomes looked like a larger development that went unfinished. The parking lot and empty lot behind them should have been developed when those were as well. Anyway

While I lament the loss of a 100 year old building, I do appreciate that they oriented the buildings to face the street. This will help it feel more cohesive with the neighborhood and make the walk down Lombardy more pleasant.  “Slot home” developments are a huge issue for a lot of cities experiencing a resurgence in urban living and can ruin an urban fabric.

I can’t read the article because I don’t have a subscription to the RTD, but it looks like the Pumunky Tribe Casino got the legal “GO Ahead” from the state!  Now for another hurdle in November when the “OK” from the city will have to be approved through a referendum.  We shall see what the people say.  I’d like to see this happen.

Update:  I found a free article here:

Better than a vacant lot, but I can't forget their 30 story proposal.

Yeah, what a letdown.  I don’t see why they can’t (in this amazing economy) build what they originally had planned for that site.  The economy is better now than it was back when the 30-story tower was originally proposed.  Oh well...

My biggest concern is the massive development at the south east corner of the Lee Bridge.  It isn't that far along making it easier to put on hold/cancel.  But as of yesterday, work continues there too.  BTW, did anyone actually see any renderings of what is being built there?  If I recall it’s something like 150 townhomes but what does that look like?

That's McRae & Lacy, indeed a townhome development by Eagle Construction; while 150 units would be great density wise for that area, it's actually just 26 lol

I think Brent is wondering about the development at Semmes and Cowardin. It’s bigger than this one.
