With airlines all over the spectrum from JetBlue to Delta to Southwest cutting service throughout the country due to various different issues, I don't see GSP landing any new service with current or new airlines any time soon unfortunately. It's gotten so bad in fact that American Airlines is dropping air service and starting bus service instead to several different cities that are close to major airports. Hope GSP doesn't get this same treatment to Charlotte soon. The only hope I see for GSP getting new service would be through maybe Breeze or Avelo. Other than that, I fully expect things to remain neutral in terms of passenger numbers, airlines, flight frequency, destinations, etc. for the foreseeable future. None of this is the airport's fault either. It's just hard right now with one punch coming after another. Everything from Covid to high gas prices to pilot shortages. I do see Cargo service increasing though especially once the expansion gets finished so some good news there.

For the record, American is not dropping any air service for their bus service.  ABE-PHL, ACY-PHL, and LNS-PHL are new service additions.    ACY and LNS did not previously have AA flights at all and ABE only had flights to CLT and ORD for AA.

It still shows the struggle airlines are going through currently though.

So are Thomas Creek and RJ Rockers just continue to pay monthly leases without reopening? Are they just gonna stay closed forever? Them still being closed with 90% of the passenger level returning to pre-Covid levels absolutely baffles me.

The airport plans to tentatively reopen Thomas Creek in July.  There are no plans right now to reopen RJ Rockers at this time.  The airport continues to use covid as an excuse and states they don't want to spread things thin with too many restaurants.   With Delta being the only airline on the B side, RJ Rockers is the odd man out right now.

American Airlines to Charlotte will be going from eight flights a day on only the CRJ 900 to seven flights a day in October with two of the flights being on the mainline Airbus 319 with the other five still being on the CRJ 900. Good to see bigger jets will be coming to GSP in the near future.

Why is it so hard for us to get a direct Boston flight?

Don't expect any new service out of GSP anytime soon due to what's going in with the airline industry right now.  See all of the flight delays and cancellations this past weekend...yeesh. Oh and Delta just cut Boston-Memphis along with Boston-Toronto before they even started. :(

Maybe it’s a good thing we didn’t land Breeze Airways with the news coming out today. Yikes. Charleston is getting hit hard for sure: https://www.postandcourier.com/business/breeze-airways-curtails-multiple-charleston-flights-to-6-destinations-including-las-vegas/article_3fae46c4-f4c9-11ec-aebb-5bb60af6acd1.html

GSP has $293 million in capital project improvements planned for the next five years, including:

  • $240 million terminal expansion that will add at least five new gates, an additional baggage claim facility and a new federal inspection station.
  • $10.5 million roadway realignment and curbside improvements to ease traffic congestion and prepare for the terminal expansion.
  • $7.5 million for a 25,000-square-foot general aviation hangar facility with 5,000 square feet of related office space.
  • $5.2 million for additional taxiway and parking aprons to double the number of cargo aircraft the airport can serve simultaneously.

This is good to see. I am guessing the addition of 5-6 gates is based on the projection for growth over the coming x number of years. Many of us have been waiting for the tipping point when GSP can finally get some western and even international flights, even if it's just Canada and Mexico.  Don't need to rehash the ATL/CLT aspect, but with a CSA of 1.5 MM, a strong business economy and a growing tourism draw, you would think we could land some of those.

There really aren't enough gates right now.  If it wasn't for the PSA MX base then GSP would really be in trouble with overnight parking.  At least a couple planes a night go straight in for scheduled MX each night and don't have to take up a gate.  Even now from time time time multiple airlines have to tow planes on and off gates overnight b/c of the lack of space.

Did GSP request grant money from the infrastructure bill? I see we did not make the list :(. Neither did CLT which I found interesting. ATL was granted $40MM and AVL was granted $15MM for a new ATC and terminal expansion.

Edit: this list is just the first approval list of $1B in projects. The bill set aside $5B for airports, so more to come I imagine.

The $65 million that was for airports statewide had been cut to $10 million by the Senate. It remained at $65 million in the House. I am not sure which one won out in the overall budget that was approved recently.

Turner has been selected as the general contractor for the landslide roadway improvement project. Construction to start Fall 2022.
