Well I just looked. Asheville has 11 departures tomorrow so not much chance for cancellations. Greenville has 38 departures tomorrow, but has had few cancellations.

Asheville has 41 departures on Sunday though. :D And that’s to cities like Las Vegas, Austin, Minneapolis, and Boston. GSP doesn’t have non stop direct service to any of those cities. GSP will always be stuck in neutral until something changes on the commission.

It varies day to day and will be even less after summer. GSP is constant every day.

CHS getting new destinations, including West Coast. On pace for over 5.1 MM passengers this year, which will set a record, even over pre-COVID 2019 levels.

And we can’t even get a non-stop direct flight to Boston. Sad.

Where is the leadership at GSP? **crickets**

I'd say the main reason for the increase and record number is due to Breeze themselves. They will now fly direct to 21 US destinations, including places like Vegas, LAX, and SFO. That's more destinations than GSP has total. I always thought it would be nice if GSP could get a mini- hub for someone, or even a home based crew (like Allegiant at AVL), but ...

Here is Breeze's home page with interactive map (waive over the city name to see locations).

CHS is a tourist hub, and doesn't have as many airports nearby to compete with. Especially Hartsfield or Douglas. GSP is right where it probably belongs in traffic.

The $65 million that was for airports statewide had been cut to $10 million by the Senate. It remained at $65 million in the House. I am not sure which one won out in the overall budget that was approved recently.

Turner has been selected as the general contractor for the landslide roadway improvement project. Construction to start Fall 2022.

$53 million is what the state came up with for 2022-2023 budget that was passed: https://www.postandcourier.com/greenville/business/upstate-sc-airport-ceo-calls-for-recurring-state-funds-unveils-cargo-expansion/article_bc19efe2-1e40-11ed-b10c-93cb40ebdfbd.html Not sure how much of it GSP will receive. It will probably all go to Charleston and Myrtle Beach.

Design of the terminal landside roadway improvement project will be complete by the end of this month. Construction will start on January 2nd, 2023 with completion in February 2025.

Design for the new entry sign is underway and construction is expected to start in early 2023 and be completed by June 2023.

A decision as to when to start construction (36 months to build) on parking garage C which was put on hold when Covid hit will be made by the end of 2022. The timing of the project greatly depends on rental car trends, customer facility charge collections, and the rental car agreement.

The commission approved a project development agreement in the amount of $3.1 million with Plenary Americas US Holdings Inc for the automated transit network system.

For July 2022, passenger traffic was 81.9% of 2019 traffic levels. Preliminary passenger numbers for August 2022 are currently trending at a 81.5% recovery level. In July 2022 passenger traffic reflects a 2.9% increase over the same month in 2021. Cargo numbers for July 2022 were down 16.9% for the same period. Passenger load factors were up 7.1% for the month, at an average of 87.3%.

Providing a look forward into the service levels for October 2022 is a schedule comparison for the month vs the same month last year, including flights and seats by airline and non-stop markets served. Currently in the schedules, GSP flights are down at 13.5%, and seats are down at 8.6%. Cuts for United to IAD, Southwest to HOU, and Delta to ATL are the routes that affected these numbers the most.

194,366 passengers in July 2022 vs 188,868 passengers in July 2021.

Load factors for July 2022 vs July 2021:

Allegiant: 91.9% vs 87.7%

American: 88.3% vs 84.3%

Contour: 65.5% vs NA

Delta: 92.6% vs 83.9%

Silver: 83.9% vs 62.3%

Southwest: 72.7% vs 64.4%

United: 87.5% vs 91.0%

Just going out on a limb here but is there any chance the leadership at GSP is not very good and are happy to just keep things as is while other airports keep adding carriers an destinations?

Like I have said before, get rid of the Milliken leadership and things would improve. The GSP Commission is a joke and has been for years now. The City of Greenville should be running the show there in my opinion.

Except most of the airport is in Spartanburg County....and none of the airport is in the City of Greenville. ...

Your knowledge of the airport and the airport commission is sorely lacking.

First, Roger Milliken has been dead since 2010.   There's no such thing as "Milliken Leadership".   But when alive was Mr Milliken an instrumental and visionary chairman of the airport commission? Certainly.

Second, the airport commission was chartered by the state before construction of the airport even began in 1961.   The commission isn't going away and it's ludicrous to suggest it be replaced by the City of Greenville.   I doubt anyone in city hall wants that responsibility.  A large commercial airport is a complex operation requiring professional management and independent oversight.   Even the smallish Greenville Downtown Airport is run by an independent commission.

To be sure there are cities who run their airports.  Chicago is a notable example.   But I argue that independent commissions or transit "authorities" with oversight over professional management is preferable to politicians and bureaucrats.

Third, the chairperson of the airport commission is Minor Shaw, daughter of Buck Mickel, a protege of Charles Daniel, who along with Roger Milliken was the force behind building the airport.  Mrs Shaw is exceedingly well respected for her commission leadership.

Finally, the commission has performed its role admirably for six decades.   I strongly challenge your assertion the commission is a "joke".  Under their wise oversight the airport has steadily grown from a tiny, some would say quaint facility (it only cost $10 million to build in 1962!) to one that is nationally recognized for its attractiveness, convenience, ease of use, lack of congestion, connections,  cargo growth, and vision for expansion.

Airport commission meetings are open to the public,  minutes are published,  and the commissioners are profiled on the airport website.

Soooooooo....gman430, you've  set yourself up as the expert, the hot shot, the absolute authority on all things GSP, but it looks like you've met your match.... maybe we shouldn't accept your outright repudiation of everything GSP  while pumping AVL, CLT and ATL. Maybe you should take a deep breath, a really deep  breath and recognize that a lot, nay...most of your invectives directed at GSP are just your petty desires to have "something blue" or "something alaska" and you don't really know how an airport works.

Stick to drone pics, they're awesome....

Charlotte runs its airport.  I don’t want that (overcrowded, somewhat dilapidated in parts).

GSP is one of the best airports in the country, in my view (and I say this as someone who has top-tier status with one airline and mid-tier status with others, showing how much I fly):

1.  It’s really easy to use; going from the entrance to the gate is quick.  (By comparison, try JFK or LGA.)

2. It’s very aesthetically attractive and spacious.

3. It has a nice lounge, Clear and other amenities that airports of its size lack.

4. It does a good volume of business.  Try getting a free first-class upgrade on American; there are slews of frequent flyers with status based out of GSP.

The only thing it’s missing is a transit link but that’s a Greenville-wide issue.

And a pro tip: constantly complaining does no good.  If you have an issue with things in Greenville, get appointed to a citizen commission around town (I’ve done that elsewhere) or run for office.  And as a former pastor at my church used to say, “if you can’t change your circumstances, change your attitude.”

That’s all well and good P&K. The airport is nice but why can’t we get more service. We briefly had a direct flight to Las Vegas. The times I flew it the plane was packed and it was a big plane. Asheville has a Vegas flight but Greenville with 3 times the population can’t? I know all about Avl and tourists but tourists don’t fly from Avl to LV. How about a flight to Boston or Los Angeles? When Southwest came in they had several destinations, Houston, Nashville , Baltimore, Chicago etc. Now just Atl.(Balt?) It seens like there are never any additions to flight schedules out of GSP.

Your points are valid.  Greenville as a whole has limited transportation options (little local transit, minimal Amtrak and few direct flights).  I don’t know enough about airline route planning to know why GSP lacks direct flights and how much the airport is at fault but agree with you.
