True it has provided a boost. A shame the basketball team can't continue this. Paladins are #1 in the state this yeat!! A shame Coach Brownell and Coach Martin refuse to play Furman but understandable. A game at the well between FU and CU would be good but not happening.

Furman is #1 in the state......they  have to beat Wofford first.  Besides, Wofford has won in  Chapel Hill, 2x.

As for the Clemson impact on GSP. It really is not much different than any airport close to a university or football wise, the impact that the Panthers would have at CLT.  Some prospective students may fly into GSP, but others fly into CLT and  tour Clemson, Carolina, Furman, Wofford,  Chapel Hill etc... Considering  over half of the freshman class at Clemson is from S.C., not sure there is a material impact.

Agreed, FU does need to beat WC. Most people regard the kenpom ratings as the best ratings srevice and they currently have FU #72, CU #99, USC #103 and WC #126. BTW FU and WC play 2 weeks from tomorrow night(Friday 17th) on ESPNU. They play again on Saturday Feb. 22nd at the well.

FU-WC games are awesome, glad the Terriers have been on top for a while. Should be great games this year.  And, good to see them broadcast from the Indoor Arena.  The arena and school are special places  and showcase how great both of  these schools are academically first and athletically second.

It's astonishing that any team could be rated below Clemson's men's basketball program right now.

For November 2019, passenger traffic was positive with a 1.9% increase over the same month in 2018. Cargo numbers for November 2019 were down 8.2% for the same period. Passenger load factors were at an average of 80.2%. Providing a look forward into the service levels for February 2020 is a schedule com- parison for the month vs the same month last year, including flights and seats by airline and non-stop markets served. GSP flights are up at 9.1%, and seats are up at 9.9%.

Proposed Terminal Building Hotel Project:

Mr. Scott Carr presented to the Commission the proposed terminal building hotel project.
Staff researched other airport hotel developments of smaller and similar sized airports that have terminal building hotels which include Huntsville, Knoxville, and Rochester. Staff also researched larger airports such as Dallas Fort-Worth, and Orlando International, etc. Staff has spoken with several local and national hotel operators of which there is significant interest to date.

Mr. Carr presented the potential site layouts that include a total structure height without impacting a future Air Traffic Control Tower’s line of sight, terminal building access through future baggage claim entrance and an interim access through a canopied walkway, and hotel parking, subject to construction approval, in proposed Parking Garage C. Mr. Carr played a site animation video of a potential terminal building hotel at GSP.
Mr. Carr requested the consensus of the Commission to initiate a Request for Proposals (RFP) and then invited questions.
The Commission inquired about parking, agreement, debt, and local hotel competition to which both Mr. Carr and Mr. Edwards. Mr. Edwards requested Mr. Carr elaborate on the RFP and the financial aspect. The Commission further asked questions related to a feasibility study to which both Mr. Edwards and Mr. Carr responded.
Based on the Commission’s discussion and consensus, Staff will proceed with issuing a RFP.

Approval to Proceed with the Construction Phase for Parking Garage C and Consolidated Rental Car Facility Project:

Mr. Kevin Howell, Senior Vice President/COO, stated that parking capacity remains a critical issue at GSP. Additional facilities are needed to provide enough capacity for premium public parking demand and also allow for rental car companies to service their premium customers. Additionally, the District needs to protect its greatest revenue source.
The design phase for Parking Garage C and the consolidated rental car facility (CONRAC) with ready/return parking and a quick turn-around (QTA) facility and is nearing completion, and Mr. Howell shared with the Commission those design plans and renderings to date.
Budget approval is necessary for the construction phase. The construction phase cost estimate is $75,000,000 with the rental car portion estimated at $47,000,000 and the public parking portion estimated at $28,000,000.
In discussing the fiscal impact related to CONRAC, the project could be funded using stand-alone CFC bonds, general airport revenue bonds (GARBs) or private placement financing. If the construction phase was approved, the District would engage a financial advisor to review the details. In order to finance the public parking portion of the project, Staff recommended a combination of cash and short-term interim financing. The surface parking program is expected to be complete in November 2020 and Garage C complete in the fall of 2022.

The Commission inquired as to the increase in cost of the project to which Mr. Howell responded.
There was a motion to (1) approve the construction phase for the Parking Garage C & Consolidated Rental Car Facility Project; (2) authorize a construction phase budget of $75,000,000; (3) authorize the financing of the rental car portion of the project; (4) authorize Staff to fund the public parking portion of the project with a combination of cash and interim financing; and (5) authorize the President/CEO to execute all necessary documents. The motion was seconded and unanimously approved.

Asheville just landed nonstop flights to Boston.

While it's slightly annoying to see AVL always get destinations before us, keep in mind that AVL does not have quite the same ALT/CLT issue that we do, and many of theirs are seasonal since it's mostly tourist travelers. This is on Allegiant, which caters to tourist areas. They also provide AVL with a direct from Austin. This actually makes me think another airline may soon step in and offer Boston from here pretty soon, that has happened before. It's been awhile now since we've had a new announcement so we'll see.

......and GSP has lost their non-stop Las Vegas flights that only lasted a short time. Very bad that Frontier started the Vegas flights and quickly yanked them. I guess it was just for publicity.

Seasonal. I'm sure this has been mentioned here before.

What season? They havent had flights since summer. No flights scheduled thru June. Las Vegas is not a seasonal destination, never has been, never will be. I just checked again all the way thru July. The best flight is 15 hours thru Denver which is ridiculous. It is not seasonal, it has been cancelled at least for now.

GSP told me the flights to Las Vegas are coming back later this year and that they are seasonal.

Summer. Maybe they changed their mind.  I would message them on Facebook and ask. They’re really good about answering questions quickly.

Stop being such a pessimist sir or ma'am. Most the bad stuff you think isn't happening. Lol.

Gman-I did what you said and this is the exact reply:

we do not have a firm date for when those flights will return. Conversations are on-going and we'll be sure to announce when they're back. Hope that helps,

I thought you guys would find this report/article interesting:

https://upgradedpoints.com/fastest-growing-and-declining-us-airports-study-2020/

Although GSP wasn't highlighted, CHS was. It lists GSP’s growth from 2017 to 2018 as 7.7%

GSP wasn't one of the 15 fastest growing that year but it was in the top 100 interactive map. According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, GSP has been the 88th busiest airport in the country the past couple of years, including in 2018.

CHS #63

MYB #85

GSP # 88

CAE #117

Not bad for GSP considering it's competing with Atlanta, Charlotte and to an extent Asheville. Charleston doesn't really have any competition plus it's a tourist city. Not surprised by it's traffic.

Hmm, isn't this almost as much as Wingspan was (110MM?)? This is just for a garage. Doesn't seem like they're getting their money's worth for just a garage. That is a LOT of $$$.
