Took this picture Saturday on the Amtrak bus to Norfolk from Newport News.  One of my favorite views of Norfolk's growing skyline.

It seems that lately, as downtown Norfolk grows, it's been taking on a funkier more eclectic vibe. It's very Austin-ish. I must say, I like the way things are going. Second image is just something to look forward to.

UrbanIce is the name I believe. Serving ice cream, crepes and coffee. I stopped in a few nights ago and they wanted $6.50 for a dish of ice cream. They are set up to operate like Stone Cold.

The Carnival Sunshine. I took cruise on it out of Norfolk Last October and had a blast! Taking another cruise on it this Friday! WOOHOO!

I know Carnival is leaving Norfolk soon, but is another cruise liner taking its place? I'd hate for there to be no cruises as downtown continues moving forward...

Carnival is shuffling their ships around and the result is Norfolk losing out in 2018. I do think there will be a return in 2019 of some type. I will have to look into that more.

Found my fireworks vantage point .  I'm really going to miss these Carnival Cruise ships coming in though.

On a side note, it's nice that people finally have something to do when they get off the ship. Docking for events like Harbofest and being able to check out the Main and Waterside should help increase demand.

I didn't realize how large of a footprint the mall really has.

Even though we haven't had a building boom like other metros our size (Charlotte, Nashville, Austin), it's interesting to see how much downtown has grown since MacArthur opened. Hopefully SPQ and Fort Norfolk cause a true resurgence downtown.

Yeah, even though I have no plans of ever moving back to Hampton Roads, I hope I get to one day see photos of Norfolk going through a major building boom and filled with cranes in the skyline. I would love to see SPQ become an extension of downtown since it has the ability to double the size of downtown. Fort Norfolk has always been a great location for an urban center outside of the downtown core giving the city a second skyline.
