Pittsburgh considers metrotransit

Currently Pittsburgh regional transit is operated by each county (with a few "express" routes to the other county's hub). By the U.S. Census Metro Pittsburgh is seven counties but the regional chamber of commerce recognizes 10 member "metro" counties. The regional organization doles out the state and federal transit funding so they have jurisdiction as far as which systems run how.

The new fully integrated metro Pittsburgh transit system would cover 7,043.8 square miles and would border West Virginia, Maryland and Ohio--and may in time spill over into Wheeling/Weirton WV, Morgantown WV and Youngstown OH just a few miles within the metro organizations boundaries.

It is still a proposal at this point but a great idea none the less--put forth by the organization that has the power to make it happen.
